BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT would be a cold evening at Warner Park when the St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots take on the Barbados Tridents, but the home side will be looking keep its supporters warm with a victory.

Though rain is expected to factor into the game, Patriots Coach Phil Simmons is brimming with confidence that his team can start with a victory this evening (Aug. 18).

With an excellent start to the season, the Patriots have recorded one loss and they are expected to sweep their home leg of the tournament.

“There is hardly any series that you are going to go through without any loss; [however], the momentum is still there. You have a loss and you would have to pick yourself up and move on. That is the way we look at it. You are going to lose one or two games, but we have lost one and it is time to move forward,” Simmons said.

Fans are expected to turn out in their numbers to support the local franchise which included the hard-hitting opener, Chris Gayle, in its line-up this year.

Samuel Badree, who has been with the Patriots for a number of years, is very optimistic that he could use this tournament to regain the form that had seen him as the world’s number one T20 bowler.

“At the end of the day, every tournament that you plan, every team that you represent, you always try to do your best. Sometime circumstances don’t [allow] you to perform to the best of your ability. But at the end of the day, every time I step on the field I will try to give 100 percent.”

Badree stated that he is looking forward to great things in the CPL, stressing that, for him, the start of the tournament had not been what he expected, “but there are early days yet in this competition and I am looking forward to finishing strong”.

The Tridents coach, Robin Singh, indicated that his unit needs to be more consistent.

“I think one of the areas where we need to step up is the fielding. I think we let ourselves down in a couple of games where it really cost us the game. So that is one of the key areas.”

The action bowls off at 9:00 p.m. and a sell-out crowd is expected to cheer the Patriots to victory.
