BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EDUCATION officials in St. Kitts and Nevis are expected to make public later this week the Federation’s pass rate for the 2017 Caribbean Advance Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and the Caribbean Secondary Certificate Examination (CSEC).

Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Education, Vincent Hodge made that announcement to SKNVibes when asked for a comment on the overall pass rate of the examinations for 2017.

Hodge however said he was not in a position to speak to that before the formal announcement is made by the Minister of Education, which is a deviation from tradition.

That refusal comes against the backdrop of many islands within the region confirming their top students and the overall passes.

“I am not at this point able to make public a statement about the CAPE results. What I can say is that they should be released to the students as of today (Aug. 18), based on the recollection of my information given by CXC and the local Registrar.

“The results should be made available to the college and to the students who took those exams sometime today”.

Unlike previous years when the Minister of Education would make an announcement of the overall performance of the Federation’s students via a public speech, PS Hodge disclosed that it would be do differently this year.

He stated that based on recommendations put forward, they are expected to host a press conference where the announcement would be made and the Minister would address the media.

According to Hodge, the CSEC results would be released to the schools during this week, but the students would not be privy to same until they would have returned text books. Also, students who do not pay their outstanding fees would not be able to access their results.

“When this is done, they would be able to access their results online...I am sure by Monday (Aug. 21),” Hodge explained.

The Caribbean Examination Council has already released the unofficial grades to students online via their examination portal.
