Patriots ready to close out final home game with a win

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER trouncing two of their opponents on home soil, St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots are looking to close out this leg of the tournament with another victory to give their fans something to look forward to in the Playoffs.

Having already qualified for the Playoffs after brushing aside the Jamaica Tallawahs, the Patriots will be looking to seal a place in the top two positions on the table in order to have two chances to make the Finals.

The Patriots will be making a big step this evening (Aug. 23) when they take on table-toppers Trinbago Knight Riders from 6:00 p.m. at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium in Basseterre.

The home side will be banking on Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis to give them an opening burst, similar to the one on Monday that saw them positing the highest total in the competition for 2017 - 208 runs off 20 overs.

Carlos Brathwaite and Johnathan Carter will also be looking to add to the score with their lower order power hitting, while Trinidadian Samuel Badree and South African Tabriaz Shamsi will most certainly seek to work magic with the ball.

But the Knight Riders will also be looking to prove that they are still capable of holding off the St. Kitts-Nevis-based franchise, with the likes of Brendon McCullum, Denesh Ramdin and the Bravo brothers to give them a cushion with the bat, while, Sunil Narine and Ransford Beaton are expected to lead from the front with the ball in a top of the table clash.

At a press conference yesterday (Aug. 22) at the St Kitts Marriott Resort, Trinibago officials explained that they have several of the best spinners in their team and it has been a benefit to the unit.

“We obviously have Ransford Beaton bowling well; we have Kevon Cooper, who has been bowling well; and obviously Dwayne himself, who is coming back from a long injury layoff [and] he is starting to find his feet as well. When you got guys who can take wickets, it is big advantage from overs six onwards.”

Officials are expecting a packed stadium as the Patriots’ final game in the Federation will be played this evening. They will be winging out to Barbdos and then to Jamaica for their final two stops before heading to Trinidad and Tobago for the Playoffs.
