BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, August 25, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- When the two giants of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition met on Thursday August 24, one of them was bound to bite the dust.

Defending champion Unity and their perennial rival for supremacy, Lodge, were the only unbeaten teams in the round-robin stage of this highly successful domino league competition as at the end of the day Tuesday August 22. That was when Unity beat Beers, and Lodge beat Upsetters to remain the only two unbeaten teams at that stage.

The epic game of the unbeaten teams was held at the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project, which is incidentally the home ground for both the teams. No one team could have therefore claimed a home advantage over the other.

As the defending champions, having won the championship for the first time last year, Captain Desmond ‘Fergie’ Rawlins of Unity was sure of a win over Lodge who they beat last year. On the other hand, Captain Horatio Thomas of Lodge, former champions, knew very well that it was just a matter of time before they could reclaim the lost glory.

With nothing to lose, Lodge went into the offensive very early and at three quarters of the way they were leading comfortably 11-6. They slipped and allowed Unity to claim a point for the score to be 11-7 but they quickly erased the shortfall and were 12-7.

Unity sprang back into contention and soon leapfrogged and reduced the deficit to 11-12 and momentarily it appeared as if they were about to equalise, and move ahead. Unfortunately for them, Captain Horatio Thomas of Lodge had other ideas.

“We lapsed and allowed them a near come back,” said Captain Thomas of Lodge. “We summoned all the tricks we had in our books and surely it paid off handsomely as we won the game 13-11.”

“I was a great game,” was all Captain Desmond ‘Fergie’ Rawlins of Unity said at the end of the game, knowing that a loss at the round-robin stage of the competition is not the end of the road for them.

In other games played on Thursday night, Sylvers overcame the away disadvantage and beat Christchurch at their home ground, the Domino House in Mansion, 13-10. Giants, who were at home at Bernette Bar in Hidden Alley Lodge Village, beat the visiting Molineux 13-10.

Tabernacle playing at home, Kizzie’s Bar in Tabernacle beat Upsetters 13-9; Unstoppable overcame their away disadvantage and beat home team Small Corner at Small Corner Bar in Lemon Hill Lodge Village 13-11; and Parsons utilised their home advantage to beat Guinness 13-11 at Parsons. The game between Beer and Saddlers was postponed as players from one of the teams were attending a funeral.

Games in the sixth round of the 22nd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition continue on Tuesday August 29 evening. The venues will be at Kizzie’s Bar in Tabernacle, Shanty Bar in Saddlers, two games at Bernette Bar in Hidden Alley Lodge Village, Tacky Bar in Hidden Alley Lodge Village, Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project, and Domino House in Mansion.
