Night One Music Festival artistes good to go

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE artistes for the first night of the 13th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival (June 25) said they are ready to put on a grand show this evening (June 25).

Today, at a Music Festival press conference held at the St. Kitts Marriott Hotel, the artistes for tonight, including Iwer George, Lord Nelson, Lejah Band featuring Blade & Byke and the recently-added Lights Out Band of St. Kitts, announced that tonight’s show would be ‘mad’.

Lord Nelson, who has hits such as ‘King Liar’, declared that he is the King of Soca and at age 77 there is no stopping him as the encouragement from the people and performing keeps him going.

This will be the first time Iwer ‘The Boss’ George will be performing at the festival and said he is looking forward to having a good time.

When questioned if local artistes Konris Maynard and representatives from Lights Out Band felt any pressure about performing on the same stage with the seasoned performers, they said they were looking forward for the opportunity to showcase their skills.

“In fact I want to challenge Iwer George to move the crowd more than I can tonight,” said the 4-peat National Calypso King of St. Kitts and Nevis, Konris Maynard.

Biggie Irie and Edwin Yearwood, who are among the artistes performing on the opening night, were not present at the presss conference as their flight did not arrive on time.

The ‘Gully God’, Mavado, arrived at the press conference just as it ended but assured everyone that ‘Mr. Brooks’ would deliver tonight.

Responding to one of the reporter’s questions, Mavado said that he would like to have more collaborations with American artistes as he did with Jay-Z, and he is looking forward to one with Busta Rhymes.

“I also listen to Rihanna and would like to do collaboration with her,” he said.

He is currently in the process of starting computer classes in his community; something he feels very strongly about as he aims to give back as much as he could to the community he grew up in.

Mavado will be the closing act on tonight’s festival while Light’s Out Band, the band that recently replaced the Nu Vybes Band, will kick things off tonight at 8:00 p.m.
