BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO individuals are currently in custody assisting police with their investigation into an attempted robbery, carjacking and shooting at law enforcement officers.

According to a police communiqué issued this morning (Sept. 22), a man reported on Monday evening (Sept. 18) that while he was about to use the National Bank’s ATM along the Frigate Bay Road, two masked, armed men had approached him.

He however avoided being robbed by locking himself in the booth, but the two bandits fled the scene in his vehicle – PA4095.

The police responded and soon thereafter were engaged in a high-speed chase, during which the bandits shot at them and the officers returned fire.

The pursuit ended in New Road after the stolen vehicle had collided with another travelling in the opposite direction.

Following the collision, the two bandits reportedly disembarked and fled the scene on foot.

Technicians from the Forensic Services Unit processed the scene and collected items of evidential value, including a 9mm Pistol and several matching rounds.

The communiqué stated that two persons are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing.

It also informed that Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley stated that the individuals who took that course of action did so against the State and all efforts would be made to bring them to justice.

He is therefore encouraging every law abiding citizens to resist those types of criminality and crime in general.

“I encourage our citizens to join with us, to come forward and share any information you may have with regards to crime and criminal activity. Citizens can do so by calling any police station, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on a Smartphone. Together we will make a difference,” Commissioner Queeley said.
