Police release robbery suspects without charges

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO individuals who were taken into police custody as suspects in last week Monday’s (Sept. 18) carjacking, attempted robbery and shooting at  law enforcement officers, were released without any charge laid against them.

The two individuals were arrested and had been assisting the police with their investigation following the botched robbery and a high-speed chase.

According to a police communiqué, a man had reported on Monday evening (Sept. 18) that while he was about to use the National Bank’s ATM along the Frigate Bay Road in the vicinity of the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Site, two masked, armed men had approached him.

He however avoided being robbed by locking himself in the booth, but the two bandits took his vehicle – PA4095 – and fled the scene.

The police had responded and soon thereafter were engaged in a high-speed chase, during which the bandits shot at them and the officers returned fire.

The pursuit ended in New Road after the stolen vehicle had collided with another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

Following the collision, the two bandits reportedly disembarked and fled the scene on foot.

Technicians from the Forensic Services Unit had processed the scene and collected items of evidential value, including a 9mm Pistol and several matching rounds.

Investigations into this matter is said to be ongoing.
