BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS a result of last night’s (Oct. 1) triple-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a young man from Sandy Point, the driver of one of the vehicles was taken into police custody.

The name of the deceased was given to this media house as 19-year-old Seccada Garroden, who is said to be a member of the Sandy Point basketball team.

According to a police communiqué, the accident occurred at around 10:26 p.m. on the island’s main road in West Farm and had involved passenger bus HA413, motorcar P4795 and motor jeep P5904.

It stated that initial investigations revealed that HA413, in which Garroden was a passenger, and PA4795 were travelling from Basseterre while the motor jeep was travelling in the opposite direction when the accident occurred.

Garroden had sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene by the District Medical Officer.

The police said that other injured passengers were taken to the JNF General Hospital for treatment, but they did not state how many.

The communiqué stated that the “driver of motor jeep P5904 was taken into custody and the investigation continues”.

According to the Police Traffic Department, last night’s accident had taken to six the number of road fatalities recorded in the twin-island Federation for the year.
