BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – VAUGHN ANSLYN, the man who was allegedly found in possession of an illegal firearm and a number of matching ammunition on Monday (Oct. 2), was charged with the offence and placed on bail.
According to a police communiqué, Anslyn of Ramsbury Site, Nevis was charged with possession of firearm, granted bail in the sum of $20,000 bail and has to appear at the District ‘A’ Magistrate’s Court in Basseterre on Monday (Nov. 6).
It however did not indicated if charges were laid against him for possession of ammunition.
At about 6:50 p.m. on the day in question, members of the Tactical Services Unit were conducting a Citizen Safety Patrol in the South East Peninsula, where they were randomly stopping and searching vehicles.
They had stopped the vehicle that was driven by Anslyn and a search revealed the discovery of a MagTech .22 Air Rifle with a large amount of pellets.
The illegal firearm and ammunition were seized and Anslyn was taken into custody.
That discovery had taken to 40 the number of illegal firearms removed from the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis for this year.
