Another man shot in Nevis

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – POLICE on Nevis are investigating an incident that has left a young man nursing a bullet wound to one of his legs.

Earlier reports that reached SKNVibes stated that some time after 1:00 p.m. yesterday (Oct. 12), gunmen had attacked and shot Taj Wilkin of Nisbett Settlement while he was in the Newcastle area.

Reports also stated that the gunmen had fired dozens of shots at him, with one striking him to his leg, and his life was saved by “playing dead”.

A police communiqué confirmed the incident and stated that it occurred in the vicinity of the Newcastle Pottery but did not provide the victim’s name.

According to the communiqué, initial investigations revealed that a young man from Newcastle was at the location of the incident waiting to catch a passenger bus, when two armed, masked individuals disembarked a silver-grey motorcar and started shooting at him.

“The victim sustained a gunshot injury to his right leg. He was assisted by concerned residents who took him to the hospital for medical treatment.”

Head of the Nevis Division, Superintendent Trevor Mills said that those acts of violence have no place on “our beautiful Island and every citizen and resident should denounce these types of activities”.

He further stated that those activities are not benefitting the island and the country as a whole, and that the police would continue to encourage everyone to report criminality and assist their fellow citizens and residents in every way possible as result of them being a victim of a crime.

The police have once again requested the public’s assistance, stating that “if anyone has information pertaining to this incident please contact the nearest police station, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS), or by using the Crime Reporting App”.

This is the third shooting incident to have occurred in Nevis over a five-day period.

The first was on Sunday night (Oct. 8) at Pinney’s Beach, where a gunman or gunmen had shot-up a vehicle. However, no one was reportedly injured and it is not known if anyone was in the vehicle at the time.

The second one occurred at about 1:50 p.m. on the following day in Fig Tree, where 24-year-old Sheldon Hawker of Burden Pasture was shot by a member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force while allegedly attempting to flee a crime scene.
