BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS officials work to relocate students from the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) in Dominica to the St. Kitts Campus, two officials from the Adtalem Global Education Inc. recently met with Cabinet to discuss their plans.

In a post Cabinet statement issued today (Oct 20), it informed that the Associate Dean of Operations, Analysis and Admissions, Carey James, and Veron Lake, Director of Civic Affairs and Security Projects, discussed the temporary relocation proposal of the RUSVM aboard the vessel GNV Excellent, which would serve as a floating campus stationed in the waters of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis up until mid-January 2018.

It was just recently that the students in Dominica were notified that they would be attending classes on a cruise line off-shore St. Kitts and Nevis.

That comes as Dominica was decimated following the passage of Hurricane Maria – a Category 5 storm.

According to the statement, before meeting with Cabinet, the Adtalem officials had previously met with the St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority, Ministry of National Security, Solid Waste Management Corporation, Customs and Excise Department and the Ministry of Health to finalize arrangements.

The vessel, which would be the base for the students, is currently in the Federations waters.

It was revealed that approximately 1,100 students would be temporarily relocated to live and attend classes, while some 150 faculty and staff along with their families would be in the Federation..

Meanwhile, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hazel Laws was present at the meeting and is said to be satisfied with the health protocols that are to be in place.

“Adtalem officials have also met with the Ministry of Education to provide documentation for the local accreditation of the Ross University School of Medicine. They have praised the level of cooperation received so far from the Government,” the statement said.
