Spurs, Newtown, Dieppe Bay record wins, St. Pauls drop points again

St. Pauls United Coach Austin Huggins giving instructions to Jahren Leader as he prepares to come on the field as a substitute
By: SKNFA, Press Release

October 31st, 2017 -- Rams Village Superstars missed a golden opportunity to nab three points and move up table after they surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with S.L. Horsford St. Pauls United in the National Bank Premier League at the Warner Park on Sunday night. Kimaree Rogers gave Village the lead in the 37th min and Travis Somersall doubled the lead in the 48th minute. But constant pressure by St. Pauls in the second half paid off. When it seemed that St. Pauls were again going to drop more points after last week’s disappointing display against St. Peters, Kendale Liburd nodded in a header from a from a free kick in the 73rd min and Keithroy Freeman sealed the draw in the 85th min.

Village Coach Jeffrey Hazel was disappointed in giving up the lead, but was happy with the three points. “It was a tale of two halves. I thought in the first half we dominated the game. In the second half we got complacent and we gave up two goals. I think it was a very good game played by two teams,” Coach Hazel said.

For Coach Austin Huggins, changing strategy in the second half earned them the draw. “It was a hard fought game. We had our tactics and so on organized to play but unfortunately the guys fell asleep again!” he exclaimed. “We always find a reason to give up goals but they really came back after we made some tactical changes in the formation. We bring in some other men into the game and we were able to push forward some more and we managed to get two goals,” he added.

Coach Huggins however wants his team to demonstrate more mental focus. “Whatever we put in place, the players need to concentrate some more. Yes they could play, yes they have the skills, but we need to focus on the task and the job we have at hand,” he explained.

In the night’s other match H.E. Garden Hotspurs edged Elco Ltd St. Peters 2-1. St. Peters took the lead in the 27th minute with a goal from Yuson Slader but Shervin Allen and Tiran Hanley gave Spurs the win with goals in the 60th and 90th minutes respectively. Meanwhile, there was a triple header on Saturday with Flow 4G Cayon Rockets brushing aside St. Thomas Trinity United 3-1. Jayan Duncan, Evansroy Barnes and Carlos Bertie were the goals scorers for the two time defending champions and Sean Percival scored the lone goal for Trinity. T.G.E. Dieppe Bay Eagles earned their first win of the season with a 2 - 1 win over Fast Cash Saddlers. Tahir Jefferson and Kishorn Warde found the back of the net in the 19th and 45th minute respectively for Dieppe Bay and Xavier French in the 22nd minute for Saddlers.

Sol Island Auto Supplies Conaree F.C. suffered back to back defeats with a 2-0 loss to Winners Circle Newtown United. Johannes Mitcham scored a penalty in the 25th minute and Akimba Lawrence in the 45th minute. Javin Matthew of Conaree was sent off in the 55th minute. Conaree suffered a sock loss last week to league minnows Fast Cash Saddlers United last week.

Matches continue in the National Bank Premier League this weekend with Winners Circle Newtown United vs. T.G.E. Dieppe Bay Eagles at the Warner Park at 5pm on Saturday and S.L. Horsford St. Pauls United vs. H.E. Garden Hotspurs at 7pm. Then on Sunday Elco Ltd. St. Peters will play St. Thomas/Trinity United at 3pm, Rams Village Superstars will play Fast Cash Saddlers United at 5pm and Flow 4G Cayon Rockets will challenge SOL Island Auto Supplies Conaree F.C. at 7pm.
