BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AN incident that occurred in Basseterre last evening (Nov. 3) and spread like wildfire on social media, is partly true but highly exaggerated by those who are responsible for its circulation.

It was circulated on social media (WhatsApp) that a female from the Spanish-speaking community and owner of a beauty salon was shot to the head and robbed while closing the gate to her Market Street, Basseterre establishment and taken to the JNF General Hospital.

The police, in a press release, however stated that a woman was indeed wounded, but not shot and also not the owner of the salon.

The release stated that last evening officers from the Criminal Investigations Department had responded to a report of robbery at Jahaida’s Beauty Salon on Market Street, Basseterre.

It also stated that inquires revealed that at about 8:00 p.m. an unknown assailant had entered the salon and attacked Jacinth Francis, who was the only customer at the time, struck her on the forehead with a solid object and fled the scene after stealing an undisclosed sum of money.

Francis was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and subsequently discharged.

The police are appealing to anyone who micht have information regarding this incident to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at the Basseterre Police Station by dialling 465-2241.
