BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TEAMS competing in the St. Kitts leg of the CFU Girls U-20 World Cup qualifying event, know their opponents for the final round of the CONCACAF Tournament in the Trinidad and Tobago.
Six teams were recently drawn for the next leg of the qualifiers, and the top two from the St. Kitts leg know in which group they would be slotted after the event ends.
At the draw ceremony this morning (Nov. 9), the host nation was slotted in Group A alongside Costa Rica, Canada and the second placed team from the Caribbean.
In Group B, the United States is placed alongside Nicaragua, Mexico and the top team from the Caribbean finals.
The CONCACAF leg of the qualifiers will be play on January 18-28, 2018, and the top three nations will be in the World Cup in France.
All of the 16 championship games will be played at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad.
The United States are the reigning CONCACAF Champions.
Meanwhile, the local qualifiers will be played on March 22-26 at the Warner Park Football Stadium.
According to the General Secretary of the St. Kitts Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), Stanley Jacobs, the event would provide an opportunity to enhance woman football in St. Kitts and Nevis.
Several of the young ladies in the line-up are also part of the senior women’s team, and they would use that as a learn experience.
“That is really why we are using this tournament as a springboard to launch a number of the young girls who will play a key role in the senior team. So, like I would have said, it is a continuum since a lot of the girls who are in this tournament would be featured later on.”
