KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent - NINETEEN artistes will be going all out to dethrone Gamal ‘Skinny Fabulous’ Doyle as the 2009 St. Vincent’s Soca Monarch competition draws near.
The showdown, made up of both males and females soca sensations, will take place at Victoria Park from 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.
The competitors are Shaunelle Mc Kenzie, Recardo ‘Recka’ Wilson, Montgomery ‘Demus’ La Borde, Lornette ‘Fire Empress’ Nedd, Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper, Shertz ‘Problem Child’ James, Rufus ‘The Man Stone’, Delano ‘D-Tector’ Joseph,Tamisha Nichols, Shernelle ‘Skarpyon’ Williams, Sharlene Samuel, Garett ‘Icon’ John, Alhaji ‘Alla-G’ James, Kellon ‘Top Notch Swift’ Belgraves, Delroy ‘Splendid’ Bentick, Reon ‘Maddzart’ Primus, Gregory ‘DJ 20’ Small, Felix ‘Dalpin’ Findlay and Derron ‘Full Clip’ Dennie.
Some of the songs that will be sung at the competition are ‘Players Anthem’, Cause A Broke’, ‘Mad House’, ‘Get On’, Got To Be Carnival’ ‘We Jamming’, ‘Mad Rum’ and ‘Small No Work’.
Gamal ‘Skinny Fabulous’ Dole, the reigning king, told SKNVibes PEP in an interview that he would be defending his title with ‘Beast Let Go’ or ‘Misbehaving’.
He said, “I will be pushing two songs because I like the idea of giving the public two songs, then having the privilege to choose which one to perform for the Soca Monarch.”
Skinny Fabulous said it is all about responsible recklessness, as he hopes to maintain his Soca Monarch title at this year’s carnival.
