Tabernacle crushes defending champion Unity in Constituency Seven Domino League

Lodge’s Captain McAllister Thomas gets distracted as his supporting player makes a move in their game against Beers
By: Peter Ngunjiri, Press Release
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 10, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- In an earth-shaking movement, Tabernacle Domino Club travelled to Lodge Project on the evening of Thursday November 9 and demolished home team and defending champion Unity Domino Club 13-4 in a game played at the Lodge Community Centre.

As the second round of the round robin stage in the 22nd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition comes close to its end, the tenth segment of play returned some very interesting and shocking results.

Unity had in the first round narrowly beaten Tabernacle 13-11 when they met in Tabernacle, but Captain Jason ‘Spoon’ Nisbett is not one person who believes in going down twice in row. He was, on paper, faced with the uphill task of beating the defending champions in their own backyard to revenge the first round loss.

Captain Spoon of Tabernacle, with the help of his energised players, overcame the away disadvantage and overturned the tables in a most decisive way this time around by recording a 13-4 win that has left the defending champions wondering what hit them - defending champions don’t get hit that badly, especially at home.

This year’s top championship contender in the Constituency Number Seven Domino League, and former champions, Lodge Domino Club suffered a narrow loss 12-13, but a loss nonetheless, to home team Beers Domino Club at Bernette Bar in Hidden Alley Lodge Village. That was a sweet revenge by Beers who had in the first round been pummelled 4-13 by Lodge.

Another three revenge wins in the second round of this year’s round robin stage were registered on Thursday night. Christchurch who had been beaten by Giants in the first round overturned the tables and returned a narrow 13-12 win over Giants in a game played at the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project.

Sylver’s beat their first round conquerors, Small Corner, 13-9 in a revenge win when the two met at Bernette Bar in Hidden Alley Lodge Village, and Mansion Upsetters beat Molineux 13-9 in a game played at the Domino House in Mansion avenging their first round loss at the hands of the same team.

In two games where the status quo was maintained, Unstoppable beat Parsons of Constituency Number Six again, this time with a 13-7 score line at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux, while in the first round they had beaten them 13-4. The other team from Constituency Number Six, Saddlers, had a better time as they went ahead and improved on their first round win (14-8) by crushing Guinness 13-3 when the two teams met at Shanty Bar in Saddlers Village.

According to the league coordinator Calvin Farrell, with only three segments of the second round remaining despite its loss on Thursday to Beers, Lodge is still leading in point standings with 110 points, followed by the defending champions Unity with 92 points and breathing heavily behind them is a team from Constituency Number Six, Saddlers, with 92 points.

    Others in order are Beers (84), Sylver’s (78), Tabernacle (78), Molineux (75), Mansion Upsetters (73), Unstoppable (67), Christchurch (53), Giants (45), Guinness (41), Small Corner (38), and Parsons (30).

Constituency Number Seven Domino League continues in the second round of the round robin stage with the eleventh segment of seven games that will be played on Tuesday November 14 at four venues. All games start at 7:30 pm. The Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux will host two games that will see Molineux facing defending champions Unity, and Unstoppable meeting with Beers.

The Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project and Bernette Bar in Hidden Alley Lodge Village will also host two games each. At the Lodge Community Centre, Lodge will host Sylver’s and Giants will be facing it off with Tabernacle, while at Bernette Bar home team Guinness will meet Christchurch, and Small Corner will meet Parsons.

In the only lone game played at a single venue on Tuesday November 14, Saddlers which is one of the two teams from Constituency Number Six in the Constituency Number Seven Domino Tournament will travel to Mansion where they will face it off with Mansion Upsetters at the Domino House.
