Bandits break into Vibes Beach Bar

Thieves cleaned out Mattingly Heights cottage

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS bandits in St. Kitts continue to engage in illicit nocturnal activities, police are seeking the public’s assistance in their investigation into a break-in at Vibes Beach Bar on the Frigate Bay Strip.

On Monday (Nov. 13), word on the street was that thieves had broken into the popular hangout spot and carted off nearly EC$10,000.

However, yesterday (Nov. 15), a police release did not provide a figure but instead stated that an undisclosed sum of money in Eastern Caribbean and United States currency was missing from the establishment.

The release stated that the owner of the establishment, Troy Hendrickson, reported that he had secured his place of business at about 2:00 a.m. on Monday (Nov. 13) and was later in the day contacted by a worker, who informed him that the bar was broken into.

Police had processed the scene and preliminary investigations revealed that in addition to the missing currencies, the thief or thieves had damaged a shutter and a door, and a vault within the establishment was moved from its original location.

Investigations are ongoing and the police are asking anyone who might have information that could lead to the apprehension of the perpetrator(s) to contact the Frigate Bay Police Outpost at 465-6899 or the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, information reaching this publication states that thieves had broken into an unoccupied cottage in Mattingly Heights, purportedly owned by a prominent retired businessman, and removed all of its furniture and other household effects.

According to sources, the incident occurred on last week Thursday night (Nov. 9) and “the cottage was cleaned out of almost everything” leaving it like a “dancehall”.

Sources claimed that the items removed from the cottage run into well over EC$300,000.

When contacted, a member of the Police Public Relation Office indicated that no report on this matter was made to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
