St. Kitts & Nevis Association Of Professional Engineers Holds Annual General Meeting

    November 21st, 2017 -- The St. Kitts & Nevis Association of Professional Engineers (SKNAPE) held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday 18th November 2017 at the Foundation for National Development Complex, Basseterre, St. Kitts. Engineers and related professionals attended this important meeting to elect a new Executive for the next two years (2017 to 2019), with the goal of enhancing the Profession.

     

    Elections were held for the posts of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and 2 Executive Members, which along with the Immediate Past President, would constitute the Executive Body. The role of the Executive would be to govern the Association and shall be responsible for its policy, organisation, administration and discipline, and to ensure adherence to the constitution and the achievement of the aim and objects, principles, policy and programme of the Association.

    Elected Executive Officers were Bertill Browne (re-elected as an Executive member), Ms. LaReine Gumbs (re-elected as Treasurer), Lester Blackett (re-elected as Vice President), Nubian Greaux (President), Mario Williams (Secretary), Calvin James (Executive Member), in addition to Fitzgerald Boncamper, the immediate Past President. All the posts were elected unopposed except for the post of the President.

    Following the election of officers, the new body introduced themselves to the general body, then discussions were held on a number of topics pertaining to the future development of the Association including:

    The urgent need to have the draft Engineers Legislation reviewed and passed, by the Government of St. Kitts & Nevis.

    Collaboration with Regional and International Engineering Associations.

    Further enhancement and development of the Association.

    Attracting Engineers and other persons involved in Allied Professions.

    Media broadcasting of SKNAPE objectives & activities, and involvement in Local & Regional Conferences.

    The Constitution for the Association allows for the inclusion of Fellows, Associate Members, Students Members, Affiliate Members and Honorary Members, in addition of the usual members, and this expansion will be a focus over the next two years.

    The objectives of the Association are:

    a) To safe guard the life, health and welfare of the public by restricting the practice of engineering to properly qualified person;

    b) To advance the status of the Engineering profession by the establishment and observance of high ethical standards of conducts;

    c) To promote and foster the advancement of the Engineering professional and science, to encourage good relations between members of the profession;

    d) To protect and advance the interest of Professional Engineers (& Allied Professionals).

    e) To collaborate and enter into mutually beneficial agreement(s) with engineering societies and related institutions whose objectives are similar to those of the Association.
