Teams ready for Girls U-20 Qualifiers tomorrow

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE stage is set and teams are ready for battle in the Girls U-20 Concacaf Qualifiers beginning tomorrow (Nov. 22) at Warner Park.

Jamaica, Haiti, Dominican Republic and host St. Kitts and Nevis are set to clash for the two remaining spots in the Confederation leg of the Championships – where the top three from the finals would qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Paris, France.

Speaking at a press conference today, President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), Anthony Johnson urged the general public to turnout in their numbers and support the tournament and women’s football.

Johnson noted that at stake for this tournament is a spot in the final leg of the Qualifiers, which is slated for January in the twin-island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

“We believe this tournament provides the opportunity for exposure of women’s football here in St. Kitts and Nevis; because, as you may know, women’s football is still a developing sport in St. Kitts and Nevis and I there say throughout most of the Caribbean region.

“It gives an opportunity for the public to see the talent that we have - not just here in St. Kitts but in the Caribbean - being displayed at this important tournament,” the President said.

General Secretary Stanley Jacobs disclosed that match days would be double headers, with school children entering free of charge while entry fee would be only $10.

On the opening night, Jamaica will clash with the Dominican Republic from 5:00, followed by St. Kitts and Nevis taking on Haiti from 7:30 p.m.

Day two, (Friday Nov., 24), will see Haiti tackling Jamaica in the opening game, whilst St. Kitts and Nevis will battle against the Dominican Republic.

On Sunday (Nov. 26), Haiti comes up against the Dominican Republic from 5:00 p.m. and at 7: 30 p.m. Jamaica will square off against the Sugar Girls.

The top team from this leg will be grouped with the United States alongside Nicaragua and Mexico in Group B.

In Group A, the second placed team will be slotted in with Canada, Costa Rica and host Trinidad and Tobago.
