BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE in Basseterre are investigating a shooting incident, which took place last night (Nov. 25) in The Village and  resulted in the death of a young man.

Earlier reports reaching SKNVibes had stated that some time this morning (Nov. 26) a man was shot to the head in the vicinity of Dr. William Connor Primary School and the Patsy Allers Playfield in The Village and that he succumbed to his injury or injuries.

The victim’s name was given as 27-year-old Theon ‘Chubby’ Audain of Haynes Smith Village, who is said to have recently returned to the Federation.

A police communiqué issued this afternoon, however, informed that the incident took place at about 11:30 last night at the junction of Wigley Avenue and Union Street.

It stated that enquiries revealed Audain was “standing on the corner of Tony Berry’s Shop where a carnival troupe was being launched” and “someone or some persons fired several shots at him”.

It also stated that he was struck multiple times and District Medical Officer Dr. Reginald O’Loughlin had pronounced him dead at the scene.

The scene was processed and several items of evidential value were taken into police custody, as well as three juveniles who are assisting them with their investigation.

Theon ‘Chubby’ Audain’s death has taken to 22 the number of homicides committed in the Federation for this year; eight on Nevis and 14 on St. Kitts.
