BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 29, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Defending champion, Unity Domino Club, and top title contender and former champion, Lodge Domino Club, on Tuesday evening November 28 signalled their intention to claim the title this year as the 22nd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition entered the semi-final stage.

Lodge who led the fourteen teams in the tournament at the end of the round robin stage, faced Beers who had finished in the fourth position, while defending champion Unity who had finished in the second position faced Saddlers the only team from Constituency Number Six that made it to the last four in the third position.

The games were held at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux and were watched by a large cross-section of domino players from some of the teams that took part in this year’s Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition.

With the four teams feeling that they have an equal opportunity to move ahead to the finals, the two games were highly competitive but at the end of it winning went according to the seeding, with Lodge beating Beers 13-9, and Unity narrowly beating Saddlers 13-11.

The teams will meet again at the same venue on Thursday November 30 starting at 7:00 pm, and should Lodge and Unity win they will then move to the finals. However, should Beers and Saddlers win, there will be a third game to break the stalemate which will be held on Tuesday December 5 at the same venue.

In the meantime there will be more action tonight (Wednesday November 29) at the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project when the battle for ‘the best of the rest continues with two knockout stage games between Small Corner and Unstoppable, and between Guinness and Christchurch. Both the games will start at 7 pm.

As the name suggests, Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League, this highly competitive domino league which is the longest running in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis if not in the entire region, is sponsored by the Area Parliamentary Representative who is also the Prime Minister of the Federation, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.

Although meant to cater for teams in his constituency, St. Christopher Number Seven, Saddlers Domino Club which is from the Neighbouring Constituency Number Six has been taking part since the inception of the league. Another team from Constituency Number Six, Parsons Domino Club joined the league about five years ago.

Prime Minister Harris, who is also the National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), one of the three parties in the ruling Team Unity Administration said that the league has served its purpose in creating camaraderie among the people in the two constituencies, as this year the league has a record fourteen teams taking part.

Watching the first two semi-final games at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex pavilion in Molineux on Tuesday evening November 28 was Mr Kevin ‘Ninky’ Williams, of Constituency Number Six, who hailed Prime Minister Harris for having a clear vision on how best communities could co-exist over twenty two years ago when the league was started.

“Even though this league was started to cater for players in Constituency Number Seven, Dr Harris, long before he became our Prime Minister, saw the need to include teams from Constituency Number Six,” said Mr Williams. “All of us should borrow a leaf from our Prime Minister’s book and our Federation will be the model in the region as to how different communities could co-exist peacefully.”
