Reigning Kings release entries for Soca Monarch Finals

By: By Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - REIGNING Soca Kings – Rucas H.E., and LAX and KT – used the inaugural Soca Inferno to officially announce their respective entries for this year’s Monarch Finals.

The duo of LAX and KT are the reigning Power Kings, and are entering with ‘Chopper’, while Rucas, the Groovy champion, is using his ‘I am headline’ lyrics.

Both the duo and Rucas would be competing in the same event, as the National Carnival Committee this year merged the Power and Groovy segments.

On Friday (Dec. 8), Rucas belted out his catchy power lyrics which were well received by the small crowd in attendance.

He confirmed to SKNVibes Entertainment after the show that ‘I am headline’ was what the fans recommended for him, since he allowed them to decide on which of his three songs should be entered.

“I am making it official, ‘I am headlines’ will be my performance piece for Soca Monarch finals on December 22. This is the song that the fans said I need to use. There were some people who were saying that I needed to use ‘Spread out’ but majority said that for us to take home that crown I have to use ‘I am headlines’ and I am going with that.”

LAX told this media house that they would be performing ‘Chopper’, a song which speaks about “elevation”.

“It speaks about people keeping their propeller spinning and rising to another level,” he said. “And we are ready for Soca Monarch! We studied the criteria and we built our song around that, and it is going to mash the criteria.”

According to LAX, since their victory at last year’s competition it has been a great experience travelling around the region and to the United States performing for their fans.

“Having that title brought opportunities for us, especially participating in the OECS Soca Monarch competition – where we captured the crown. So we are looking forward to defending that crown as well.”

Meanwhile, Rucas debunked the notion that there was a need for him to perform a Power entry in order to win.

He stated that “the reason there was a power song is to ensure I had options on the table so that people out there can decide which one they would want me to perform for them”.

The 2017/2018 Soca Monarch Finals is slated for December 22, while the Semi-finals would be held on December 15, both events at Carnival Village.
