BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A new executive body has been voted in to govern athletics in the Federation.

Members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (SKNAAA) on Saturday (Dec. 9) gave Val Henry and Evris Huggins the nod to lead the body over the next four years, after the body’s Quadrennial General Meeting.

The meeting which was held in the conference room of the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association, saw Henry eclipsing long-time president, Glenville Jeffers for the top spot, while Huggins gained the support to be the Vice President over Iston Williams.

In a statement released following the elections, Henry and other members of the new executive gave their commitment to ensuring that the sport will be “athlete centric”.

Henry, who is popular in the media circle, said his mission is to “make the sport about the athletes” and that priority attention will be given to training and development, which he said “is a focus greatly needed”.

“Training and development will be comprehensive and across all areas, including for athletes, coaches, technical officials, club leaders and the association’s management. More effort will be placed on club development, recognizing that the association is largely one of clubs, and that the more dynamic our clubs are, so too will become the association. More attention is also expected to be placed on the development of the sport in the rural areas of St. Kitts and Nevis,” he explained.

The new president stated that in Nevis immediate attention would be given to ensuring that athletes and clubs feel that they are truly part of the national athletic federation.

“Events organized by the SKNAAA will now be held in Nevis as well,” said the president and that “good use of the newly constructed Nevis Athletic Stadium, is to be expected in coming months.”

The new executive body, will serve a four-year term carried out by, Keithley Phillip as General Secretary; Treasurer, Losana Laws; Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, Latoya Jones; Public Relations Officer, Kilony Johnson; Games Secretary, Stewart Joseph; Women's Representative, Roatter Johnson; Coaches' Representative, Shirmon Caines; Technical Officials’ Representative, Denville Francis; and Meritzer Williams as Athletes’ Representative.

The executive members would now be planning for the 2018 athletics season which sprints off in January.
