BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PANDAMONIUM broke out late yesterday afternoon (Dec. 11) in the Parliamentary Chambers in Guyana, when an opposition Member refused to leave after being ejected.

MP, Juan Edghill was thrown out after his behavior was deemed “out of order” by the Speaker of the House, Barton Scotland.

According to information received by SKNVibes News, Edghill was given  2 hours to present on estimates for new programmes that fall under the Ministry of the Presidency. Edghill considered the timing too short and began a debate with the Speaker, objecting to the time allotted.

Scotland then reprimanded the People’s Progressive Party MP, and suspended him from the remainder of the day’s proceedings.

It was at that point that chaos broke out as, the MP was heard stating that he was not leaving.

The Speaker proceed to ask the Sergeant at Arms to escort Edghill out, but the MP in a high tone declared that “I will stand up here and be out of order”.

It was at that point that the police were called in and the Assembly proceedings turned into a physical ‘tug of war’.

Proceedings for the remainder of the day were suspended, as members of the opposition staged an all-night sit-in.

SKNVibes has learnt that some opposition parliamentarians are still in the National Assembly, up to press time as confirmed by our colleague on the ground.

A video report compliments of our colleagues from Capital News in Guyana.
