St. Kitts-Nevis Abuzz with 2017 CXC Excellence Awardees

    (EMU) – St. Kitts, December, 13, 2017: The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis has been the centre of activities surrounding the 2017 Caribbean Examinations Council’s Annual Governance meetings and Awards Ceremony for outstanding performances in the May/June 2017 CAPE and CSEC examinations.

     

    The Awards Ceremony scheduled for Thursday December 14th at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort would feature remarks from Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, Chairman of the Caribbean Examinations Council and Deputy Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Hon. Shawn Richards.  
     
    This year’s awardees are from Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts and Nevis, and Trinidad and Tobago.

    Awards are presented to candidates for outstanding achievement in a number of categories for each of the levels including CAPE; CSEC and CCSLC. Awardees receive a monetary prizes and awards.  

    The 2017 CSEC Most Outstanding Candidate Overall is Michael Bhopaul of Queen’s College, Guyana.  Michael achieved Grade I in 25 subjects and was selected as Most Outstanding Candidate in Sciences, Business Education and Technical Vocational Education. 

    In CAPE, the Most Outstanding Candidate in the Caribbean Overall is Joel Kissoon, Presentation College, San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. Joel wrote 16 CAPE Units and achieved Grade I in 14 Units and Grade II in two Units. Joel Kissoon is also the winner of the 2017 Dennis Irvine Award.  He becomes the third student from Presentation College, to win this award.

    The 2017 CCSLC Most Outstanding Male is Tereque Raeburn of the Presentation College, Grenada.  Tereque achieved Mastery in CCSLC English and Mathematics, Grade I in CSEC Information Technology and Physical Education and Sport and Grade II in Industrial Technology (Electrical).

    While Kadeema Blanchette is the 2017 CCSLC Most Outstanding Female. Kadeema, a past student of the Basseterre High School, achieved Mastery in CCSLC English, French and Mathematics, and Grade I in CSEC Theatre Arts and Physical Education and Sports.

    The 2017 Governance Meetings of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), CXC’s highest decision-making body will be held on Friday 15th December at the St Kitts Marriot Resort under the Chairmanship of Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.

    Principals and Education officials met with the representatives on Wednesday afternoon and the meeting of the School Examinations Committee (SEC) will be held on Thursday 14 December at the same venue.

    Throughout the week the contingent made courtesy calls to some of the Federation’s dignitaries. On Tuesday, the delegation met with the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Tapley Seaton and Premier of Nevis, Hon. Vance Amory. On Wednesday, the delegation met with Honourable Shawn Richards, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture, and the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, Leader of the Opposition. 

    The top awardees were treated to a shopping excursion at Port Zante and a Scenic Railway Tour of the island.
