Weekend Vibes: Remembering Michael Jackson

Curtis Morton
By: Nevis Bureau, SKNVibes

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - MUSIC icon Michael Jackson died on June 25 at his home in Los Angeles, California, and this week Nevisians give their views on how the supremely talented entertainer and recording artiste would best be remembered.

Ali  - Probably as for the rest of the world, his music. I remember when he was young and you looked at cute little Micheal he was everybody’s heartbeat. As you know, in the States people worship musicians like God. I remember him with sadness because he was a severely troubled young man. It makes me feel sad when so many of our African legends go in the show business and get involved in so many things that could take away a fruitful life.

Curtis Morton - I remember five-year-old lead singer in front of his brothers, singing those wonderful songs with the Jackson brothers. That’s the Michael I remember. Anything in his teens I don’t want to remember. I want to remember the black little boy. He had wonderful songs after, but many things over shadowed that.

Sister C  - He would always be remembered in my mind. It was shocking news. He has always been an icon. He is the best there was, there is and the best there will ever be. He is the world’s greatest performer and nobody can take that from him regardless of what is said about his personal life. He was an entertainer and as an entertainer he was the best. He was born an entertainer, lived his life as an entertainer and up until his dying day he was an entertainer. That’s an ENTERTAINER. What a man does with his personal life is his personal business. If he chooses to change the colour of his hair daily, bite his nails, change his face, that’s his business. I see him as an entertainer not what he does for his personal life. As a D.J and lover of music, the music of Michael will live on for a long long time in my heart, mind and soul, for both my listeners and myself. Again, I say he is the best there was, there is and the best there will ever be.

Adam - Because he has become such a star it affects everybody in some form. I don’t think that there is one person that does not like one song from M.J. There has been no other artiste that have accomplished what he has, even though he may be a little misunderstood he still means a lot to us and he would be missed by all.

Don Mills - I remember the Jackson Five. I think that there is no question about it, he is the king of pop. I think he is the one who brought the real popularity of pop to the world. He was a great humanitarian; he contributed greatly to a lot of worthwhile charities.

Kaino Jones  - I remember Michael as one of the greatest entertainers of all time. His music resonated to the young and the old; he contributed to many charities around the world for example: the aid charity with the song WE ARE THE WORLD in 1986. He will live on forever as the King of Pop.
