GIS, 18 December 2017 - Chief Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Lionel Michael has said that Food Handlers’ sessions has resumed on Tortola.

Mr. Michael said the sessions have resumed following the establishment of a partnership between the Environmental Health Division and the management of Nature’s Way. He said the collaboration has facilitated the much needed return of the education session as efforts continue to prevent and protect the community from environmental health related diseases.

Mr. Michael said, “We want to publicly thank the owners and management of Nature’s Way, who have provided us with not only a venue to hold the Food Handlers’ Clinic but also the use of their equipment to conduct the sessions that can accommodate up to 25 individuals.”

According to the Chief, the division has started with the training of Nature’s Way staff. He added, “From this week we will begin to hold consistent clinics which will accommodate new food handlers as well as renewals. Anyone handling food should be trained in food safety.

These sessions will arm participants with the necessary tools and information required to ensure that microorganisms and food borne diseases are reduced if not eliminated through basic food handling and food safety principles.”

Food Handlers’ Clinics will be held on Thursday December 21 at Nature’s Way located in Fat Hogs Bay beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Persons renewing their Food Handlers’ certificates are required to present their expired certificates, social security card, work permit and/or picture identification.

For more information, please contact the Environmental Health Division at telephone number 852-7782.

The Environmental Health Division is committed to ensuring that all aspects of the environment with the potential to negatively impact health are managed efficiently, to enable all persons in the BVI to attain and maintain optimal health and social well-being.
