BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IT was all smiles for the fans of the RAMS Village Superstars team, when the unit saw off S.L. Horsford’s St. Paul’s 1-0 at Warner park over the weekend to lift the Carnival Cup.

The win is the second consecutive for the team in as many years, as they picked up their first trophy of the season.

Head Coach of Village Superstars, Leroy Liburd, stated that the game was a really competitive encounter, as he gave  “kudos” to both teams for their performances.

He said that the encounter was worthy of a finals , as St. Paul’s played a more physical game, but his unit was more physiologically ready and stuck to their game plan.

“We believe that we are the most talented team, and the talent worked hard…and the game plan which was to not let anybody rough us or the opponent frustrate us.”

A 45th minute strike from Kamari Rogers was enough to separate the teams and hand Village the trophy.

St. Paul’s fought valiantly but they could not find the back of the net.

Looking ahead, Liburd said that they need to work on their finishing as they had a number of opportunities that went abegging.

He expects bigger and better things from his team for the remainder of the season, after they took home the hardware.

“We have high standards and we expect to compete in every Championships. So, once we get there, we have no choice to get there and win.”

Meanwhile, President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association, Anthony Johnson extended a hand of congratulations  to the Superstars team on their victory.

The president intimated that that he believes that “it was an excellent game. Commendations to S. L. Horsford St. Pauls United, who fought very hard and contributed to an excellent game tonight.”

“This was the climax of the first round of the National Bank SKNFA Premier League for 2017 - 2018, and, as you would have seen, it ended on a high note,” he added.

The second round of the league is slated to begin in January, when teams will begin tasseling for position to qualify for the Easter Cup.
