Tourism hands over keys booths at Black Rock

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Dec.28.17 – THE government today handed over keys to the first set of completed booths at the popular Black Rocks location in Bellevue, which is currently being upgraded to provide a better visitor experience to guest and tourist.

At a short ceremony overlooking the Caribbean Sea, Tourism Minister, Hon. Lindsay Grant and Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for the area, Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris presented the keys to Joseph Richards, Jacqueline and Mauricia Geoffery, Lynette Boddie, Yvette Samuda and Edith Richardson Rose.

The booths form part of an overarching upgrade to the entire area, and is being done in two phases.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Government and Whitegate Development Corporation.

According to CEO and Managing Director of Whitegate, Ellis Hazel the developmental project started in 2016 and each of the completed booths cost approximately $50,000.

Giving SKNVibes additional cost, Ellis disclosed that the development to the pastured area of Black Rocks would cost approximately $35,000, while the proposed barbecue area would see a price tag of $75,000.

Whitegate has yet put a figure to any work in relations to phase two of the project.

Minister Grant, pointing to the benefits of the upgraded tourism product globally, stated that St. Kitts and Nevis can do no less.

He urged that people should never fall victim to complacency, “instead continually strive to improve”.

“To this end, the Ministry of Tourism and the St. Kitts Tourism Authority are implementing a number of projects and programmes designed to enhance our growing tourism product. Today, we are here to celebrate yet another milestone and achievement and it is the commissioning of the first five vendor booths here at Black Rocks in the Bellevue area.”
The Black Rocks location has been a popular destination for many, especially on Easter Monday, PM Harris noted.

Dr. Harris gave commendations to the Ministry of Tourism and the Whitegate Development - a government entity – for partnering in the delivery of the project.

“…one such point we can look at the development here at Black Rock is that the government, through this and other initiatives and projects to come is expanding the benefits of the tourism product to encompass the rural communities. And in this regard, we are doing so today by empowering five vendors.”
