BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jan.02.18 – SUPERINTENDENT, Cromwell Henry has reported that yesterday’s Parade Day went without any incidents, but confessed that there were some hiccups in terms of the flow of troupes and bands.
Henry told WINN FM’s Clive Bacchus this morning that there were no incidents or injuries resulting from any of the activities - thus commending the patrons and revelers for their support.
“I want to thank the bands for their cooperation throughout the parade yesterday."
The Superintendent noted though that there was a level of confusion with regards to the movement of the bands, because of changes to the normal route.
This year, the Carnival Committee made several changes including sending the bands into Warner Park and also having them parade on Fort Street twice.
“There was a bit of confusion because there was a change to what we are accustomed to, in terms of parade and performances of the troupes. The slight change was that they were not performing on the bay front in front of RAMS, but the troupes at the end of the parade had to go to Warner Park to perform on stage as their final judging point.
“There was some sense of confusion as to how the bands would get back down on the route, because police was not going to allow any jamming beyond Warner Park.”
Looking ahead to today’s parade, the Superintendent noted that the arrangements are per usual, with each band or troupe beginning at their usual location before heading into town.
“The bands would play from their various mas camps and come into the route in Basseterre that was used for J’ouvert; Cayon Street, then go down Church Street or they can go down West Independence Square Street onto the Bay Road, up College Street, Liverpool Row, Fort Street and then go all the way down that route.”
Henry stated that the bands would be directed accordingly by the police, in order to have a smooth flow.
Activities begin at 12:00 p.m., and according to Henry, they would be able to jam until 9:00 p.m. with all activities closing off at midnight.
