Small Axe cops Road March, as Red Devils takes J’ouvert

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jan.02.18 – THE Small Axe Band has returned to winners row, after it copped the 2017/2018 Road March crown for the fifth time in the last six years.
     
    The band lost out in 2016/2017 when the Grand Masters Band took the title, but this year they recorded 34 points to walk away victorious.
     
    Officials from the National Carnival Committee did not release the other placements.
     
    For J’ouvert, Red Devils with Egyptian Devils walked away with the title, recording 146 points, Mas Jumbies (116 points) with Colortopia took second place.
     
    The popular Xtreme Jouvert with Xtreme colour occupied third with 110 points, while Grand Masters with Most Wanted took fourth place (96 points).
     
    Ultra-Carnival stamped its authority on Grand Parade Day, walking away with a number of titles.
     
    It took first place in the Troupe of the Year with ‘A Wanderer’s Dream’, recording 890 points, beating out Fhunn Vybes (Nature’s Fury -783 points) and Solid SKB (The Tropics – 678 points).
     
    Ultra-Carnival also took away the Largest Troupe title and the Most Punctual Troupe.
     
    The King of the Bands and Queen of the Bands titles, also went the way of Ultra Carnival, while First Troupe to Release award went to Fhunn Teenz.
     
    According to the Carnival committee, Winner of the Troupe of the Year title will walk away with $25,000.00, runner up -18,000.00, other troupes - $2,000.00.
     
    The King of the band - $1,500.00, Queen of the band - $1,500.00 and the First troupe to Launch/ Release -$500.00.
