Parry: No determination yet on the way forward

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jan.03.18 – DESPITE media reports, Leader of the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), Joseph Parry has said that no determination has been made on the way forward for the party and about his resignation.

In an invited comment, the long-time NRP leader explained to SKNVibes News that he has not made any report that he had resigned from the post as leader.

He however noted, that he is currently in discussions with party executives “and I would not want to make any report until they have worked out a way forward”.

Over the last several weeks, since the NRP had a landslide defeat at the polls, reports surfaced in the media, including published by this media house that he was in the process of resigning from the helm of the party.

SKNVibes had reached out to Deputy Leader of the NRP, Hensley Daniels for a comment. Daniels indicated then that Parry would issue a statement, however, none has been made..

But a report published by WINN FM confirmed that the NRP boss had indeed resigned from the party.

“I have been asked by the executive of the Nevis Reformation Party to deliver this address on their behalf to you the people, and the residents of Nevis. Firstly, let me make it clear what my intention is. My intention over the next few weeks is to step down as leader of the Nevis Reformation Party. It is important that I give that party the opportunity to organize their transition period so that we can have a smooth movement from the present situation to one that will strengthen the party for the future.”

Parry told this media house that one of the reports came out of a private conversation he had with an individual about plans.

“But somebody jumped the gun before I have had the proper discussions with my executives. It is a friend of mine and I told them what my thinking is and what I had intended to do, but they jumped ahead,” he noted.

He stated that the party is currently in the process of determining its way word.

Reflecting on the defeat, the former Premier explained that there was a number of factors that contributed to the defeat, including the fact that they did not have enough money at the time.

“From my point of view, I don’t think anything went wrong for us on the ground. We were short of money and everybody knew that, and we couldn’t bring home our people.”

He stated that they held the ground but not the air, “but there are certain other factors that are being examined at the moment. Because, what is being fed to me is that there are a lot of irregularities took place.”

Additionally, he disclosed that a number of planes came in with persons from Santo Domingo and Guyana with people to vote.
