Leeward Islands Hurricanes Stopped Red Force

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jan. 08.18 -  THE Leeward Islands Hurricanes proved to be too strong for the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, as they eked out a one wicket victory in the latest round of the Digicel Professional Cricket League 4-day matches at the Queens Park Oval in Trinidad.

The home side won the toss on Thursday and elected to bat, and were bowled out for 222, as Jeremiah Louis and Sheno Berridge both snagged four wickets each.

However, the Hurricanes batting again failed as they were skittled out for a paltry 163, handing the home side a 59-run lead.

Hurricanes’ Akeem Saunders was the only batsman to put up resistance with a well-constructed 49 runs.

Imran Khan with  5 for 25 was the chief destroyer of the Hurricanes lineup.

In the second inning, the Denesh Ramdin-led Red Force never got going, as Sheno Berridge again pegged the Red Force back, taking 4 for 40 - ending with eight wickets in total for the game.

He removed the big wicket of the in-form captain, Ramdin for 28 runs.

Setting a target of 221 for victory, Devon Thomas led from the front as he stroked a patient 65 from 99 balls; an inning that consisted of five boundaries and three sixes.

Thomas gained assistance from Kieran Powell, who chipped in with 41 runs from 79 balls.

In other results, table toppers the Guyana Jaguars saw off the Jamaica Scorpions by 2 wickets in Kingston.

The Jaguars are closing in on defending their PCL title.

Over in Bridgetown, the Barbados pride were held to a draw by the Windward Islands Volcanoes.

The Hurricanes currently sit third on the table with 79.4 points, trailing the Pride and the Jaguars.

The Hurricanes now travel to Kingstown to play the Scorpions, before closing out against the Volcanoes at Warner Park.
