BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jan.09.18 – WINNERS of the Ministry of Tourism Best Destination Photo competition were presented with their spoils yesterday.
Junior Moore and Pin-Hu Wu were the winners in the two categories (Adult and Youth) that were being judged, as part of the 2017 Tourism Month activities.
According to Tourism Events Unit Executive Director, Allister Williams, last year was one of the better years, as the competition had overwhelming support. He disclosed that there were 98 submissions in the competition.
Junior Moore took home the award in the Youth category, followed by Jacquan Olu Phillips and Carolyn Adams in third.
In the Adult Category, the winner, Wu was followed by Charlin Joseph and Malalen Langaran in third place.
Permanent Secretary in the Tourism Ministry, Carlene Henry-Morton explained that the Ministry is happy when they have such events, because they are some of the mechanisms to which St. Kitts and Nevis is marketed.
As a result, the PS reminded that St. Kitts has been recognized in a number of prestigious international publications in 2017 and 2018 thus far as the place to visit.
“And we feel that our residents and our citizens have a huge role to play in making sure that they spread that message,” she noted.
Henry-Morton pointed out that beyond the competition, they want citizens and residents to continue to use social media to promote St. Kitts.
“We do have a lot in St. Kitts to offer. Those of us who travel; we would see that we are just as competitive as anywhere else, and it is for us to ensure that we get those pictures out [and] we write positive things about our St. Kitts.”
She urged persons to snap those beautiful sunsets because “you never know where these pictures are going to end up”.
October is recognized locally as Tourism Awareness Month, and Ministry officials are expecting to host the event again in 2018.
