CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, Jan. 17.2018 – THE Federation recorded it’s first homicide for the year, when 19-year-old Cleon Browne was shot deadtoday in Rawlins Village, Nevis.
According to early information, the young man who resides in Rawlins Village was gunned down in a hail of bullets around midday.
The police in a statement confirming the incident, stated that they are investigating the shooting death of the young man.
The police further stated that, “At about 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2018, the Gingerland Police Station received a report of a shooting incident. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found Browne along the roadside in Rawlins Village with what appeared to be gunshot wounds to the body. He was transported to the Alexandra Hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival.”
They reported that the scene was processed, and a number of spent shells were taken into police custody.
This incident comes one day after Commissioner of Police, Ian Queeley gave the nation an update on police statistics for 2017 showing homicides trending downward and removal of illegal firearms on the rise.
In their statement the force they said they are “committed to continuing to reduce crime in the Federation and solving crimes when they occur”.
“However, in order to be successful, as much information as possible is needed to assist with arresting and charging perpetrators of crime.”
The Federation last year recorded 26 homicides, with 19 occurring in St. Kitts and 7 on Nevis.
