BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jan.22.2018 – LAW enforcement officials have laid charges against Remeo Tweed of Kittstodart, in the drug bust at Customs Bird Rock Headquarters last week.
Officials from both Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department and the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have laid charges after drugs were found concealed in a water heater.
While conducting a search, officers found 12 packages with a vegetable material suspected to be cannabis inside a water heater that was enclosed in the box.
The 12 packages had a combined estimated weight of 8,337 grams or approximately 18 pounds.
Initially, police had taken two individuals into custody, but one was released, and Tweed was subsequently charged by the Customs and Excise Department for False Declaration, Importation of Cannabis Sativa Concealed in a Container, Importation of Restricted Goods to wit Cannabis Sativa, and Attempted Fraudulent Evasion.
Further, the police charged Tweed for the offences of Possession of Cannabis, Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Supply and Importation of Cannabis.
According to the police, on January 17, 2018 Customs and Police Officers carried out a search on a package marked "Prestige Trucking Services". The box was being cleared by the owner of Prestige Trucking Services, Mr. Remeo Tweed.
He has since been released on bail.
