Pep Radio interviews Queen Ifrica at 3:00 p.m. today

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JAMAICA’S Queen of Reggae, Queen Ifrica, will today (Wednesday, July 8) be featured on SKNVibes Pep Radio at 3:00 p.m. during an interview with Hi-Light and Rinch.

Queen Ifrica was one of the participants in the recent Tempo TV Network’s ‘Badness Outta Style’ School Tour in St. Kitts, where she performed at the Cayon High, Basseterre High and Sandy Point High Schools along with other regional artistes.

The event was jointly sponsored by the Ministry of National Security and Tempo, and was said to be aimed at supporting an anti-violence message with a high energy presentation/performance for the youths with positive songs and messages from the artistes.

Born Ventrice Latora Morgan and known as the ‘Fyah Muma’, Queen Ifrica is now ready to cement her place in the land of Reggae, specifically with her VP Records’ debut - ‘Montego Bay’.

This is Ifrica’s second studio album and it comes after a whirlwind 2008, rocking the music scene with singles such as the spine-chilling ‘Daddy’ and ‘Keep it to Yourself’.

The album, Montego Bay, is a 13-track CD filled with smooth, real-reggae-tuned singles including the above mentioned hits along with musical treats such as ‘Far Away’, ‘Coconut Shell’ and ‘In My Dreams’.

Other hits such as ‘Lioness On The Rise’, ‘Yad To The East’ and ‘Don’t Sign’ present the Queen to be a versatile crooner and writer.

Commenting on the album, Queen Ifrica said that her second album is picking up from where ‘Fyah Muma’ left off.

“It’s different, in the sense that it was done for a major music label, VP Records. But other than that, it’s still Ifrica. Social commentary, a love song here and there…it’s an exciting album,” she said.

After 10 years on the music scene, without a doubt, this confident Rastafarian queen has marked a commanding and unforgettable start to her musical reign.

She is the daughter of legendary rock steady icon Derrick Morgan and had made her authoritative debut with the release of the local smash hit ‘Below the Waist’, where she playfully details the powerful allure of sexual love.

Her determination to ‘burn out’ negative trends and contrary influences which have held back the black poor in the Jamaican slums has positioned her as a first class lyricist/songwriter and an artiste with a keen sense of social justice.

She has earned her praises. In her first year as an established star, Queen Ifrica received numerous nominations, including Best Solo Female Reggae Vocal Performance and Breakthrough Reggae Artiste at the inaugural Reggae Academy Awards.

Contending among the best in the business, in 2007 she had taken home Sinjay of the Year at the inaugural EME Awards and Female DJ of the Year at the IRIE FM Awards.

She also won Female DJ/Rapper at the Annual International Reggae and World Music Award (IRAWMA) held at the famous Apollo Theatre, New York in 2007.
