BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jan.23.2018 – SPEAKER of the National Assembly, Michael Perkins has suspended  Opposition Leader, Dr. Denzil Douglas for five days,  over his conduct in the House today.

Douglas was reprimanded for a verbal altercation with the Speaker after he was asked to sit down and stop talking..

Addressing the National Assembly on matters of a personal nature, Dr. Douglas sought to bring attention to a question posed by a reporter on whether or not he had retired from Parliament, but he also sought to correct statements made by the Attorney General, Vincent Byron.

The Speaker interject to remind Dr. Douglas that he should speak on matters that are non-controversial, and matters that affect him outside of what transpires outside of parliament.

After not heeding the calls of the Speaker, Dr. Douglas was requested to be seated and shut up, but he continued.

In dismissing the former PM, Speaker Perkins said: “The Speaker or the Chairman shall order any member whose conduct is grossly disorderly to withdraw immediately from the National Assembly during the remainder of the day’s sitting and may direct such steps to be taken as are required to enforce this standing order.”

The Speaker invoked Standing Order 49.2

SKNVibes News reached out to Dr. Douglas for a comment, but was unsuccessful.
