CrewFest opens at Christophe Harbour Marina

By: VhCommunications, Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 17th January, 2018 - About 200 crew members of super yachts cruising the Caribbean are in St. Kitts, at Christophe Harbour, participating in the third Annual Caribbean CrewFest.

CrewFest was designed to provide education and experience to super yacht crews about St. Kitts and the Marina at Christophe Harbour. The event officially opens on Wednesday, 17th January.

While here, crews learn about the facilities of the Marina, get to experience St. Kitts and Nevis through tours, capture the culture of the island, participate in professional development seminars and have a great time during the four-day event.

In a special activity, crew members get to learn the culinary delights of St. Kitts and Nevis and the Caribbean.

Christophe Harbour’s Executive Chef Barnaby Jones will share his passion for local and Caribbean food during a session on the 18th January.

That experience starts with a trip to a local farm where attendees will pick ingredients and discuss the unique foods and flavours available on St Kitts.

Then it’s back to The Pavilion restaurant where the ingredients will be used to create an authentic Caribbean breakfast.

This engagement also illustrates Christophe Harbour’s expanding relations with local farmers and fishers, which is also buttressed by the growing yachting industry, particularly the super yacht cruise industry on St. Kitts.

In addition, Aeneas Hollins, who is the director of yachting at Christophe Harbour, will lead a session on Best Stewardship Practice for Super Yacht Marinas and Marine Environments, during one of the developmental sessions that are spearheaded by ACrew, an international professional development company.

Hollins said that CrewFest is now firmly established on the international super yachts calendar, and has become an event of note. The event is primarily for super yacht crews, although at times, yacht owners and guest join the occasion.

Commenting on one of the key reasons for introducing CrewFest, Hollins said, “It is a great way to drive new vessels that we have not seen before to our shores to experience and to learn to love St. Kitts and Nevis, as we do.”

Another highlight of CrewFest is a uniques artistic experience with local artiste Dale Kelley of Dale’s Art Gallery, located at the Marina.

It will be a workshop that allows crews to created their own pieces of art in her marina studio. All accounts indicate that the create session is fully booked.

Officials at Christophe Harbour and the Ministry of Tourism agree that the event is good for yachting in St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as for the continued development of The Marina at Christophe Harbour.
