BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jan.26.2018 – SEVERAL of the Federation’s top scholastic athletes willould light up the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium for the 2018 Giant Mmalt Inter High Sschool Relay Championships.
The Championship, which is slated for Sunday, January 28, willould see all nine of the Federation’s High Schools participating – according to organizer Timothy Morton.
In its second edition, the relay is being organized by the Department of Sports, and has been used as the launch of the scholastic athletics season.
Morton told SKNVibes Sports that the event is in its second year, and in addition to the schools they have also extended invitations to clubs, Ross University, Winsor University and UHMS.
“The event is going to be event bigger than last year, in that we have cheerleading championship as well. This is new to the event this year, and that would bring a different following because we have five or six schools participating in that event.”
According to Morton, the schools were given a preparation fee of EC$1000 for the cheerleading competition.
On the track, teams will be competing in the boys and girls sprint relays (4x100m, 4x200, 4x400) and medley; while for 2018, the organizers have added the mixed team event (where boys and girls are running together).
The event kicks off with the opening ceremony at 2:30 p.m., while the first event sprints off at 3:00 p.m.
