BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER expending considerable effort to get to the scene of a reported fire, a unit from the St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services discovered that the call may have been a prank.

Shortly before 11:00 this morning (July 9), two tenders took through Church Street in search of a fire which was reportedly at the Finance Department, located in the building which sits on the north western corner of Church and Central Streets.

SKNVibes visited the scene and spoke with Fire Chief Hester Rawlins who confirmed that a call was placed to the Fire Department indicating that there was a fire at the corner of Central and Church Street.

Another fire officer explained to this media house that when the unit arrived at the Finance Department, it discovered that “there was no sign of a fire inside. The information we received was that a generator was on fire at the Finance Office. We spoke to a lady there and she said there was no call made from that office. We went to the Treasury (which is housed in the same building) area and we discovered that there was no fire there either. We were even taken to the area where the generator is held and there was no sign of a fire there”.

Having found neither fire nor signs of a fire, the unit, which consisted of two tenders, eight officers along with the Fire Chief and his Deputy James Warner, left the scene.

SKNVibes made several attempts to contact senior members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, including Public Relations Officer Inspector Cromwell Henry, to inquire as to whether or not the incident is under investigations. However, all efforts were futile.

As a result of subsequent attempts, Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Richardson was contacted and he informed that he was unaware of the incident and could not speak to whether or not it is being investigated.
