BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Jan.31.2018 – LEADER of the Opposition, Dr. Denzil Douglas has indicated that he believes that there is nothing wrong with the rebranding of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), as the political organization continues to restructure its leadership.

Douglas, while responding to a question posed by SKNVibes at the party’s press conference today, said he thinks that there is a need to have some changes in the leadership of the party, but not the entire hierarchy.

“As we have just outlined so far, we have identified four constituencies where the leadership will change. Three have already been somewhat announced at the lowest level of the party’s hierarchy and structure, and one more would be announced shortly.”

Apart from that, Dr. Douglas noted that what they have done over the last two years is to look at the restructuring of the party at its leadership level.

He explained that the leadership of the party is at a constituency level, stressing that he is not one who believes that while restructuring or rebranding the party that the entire leader has to be removed.

That comment comes against the backdrop of many in the public criticizing the long-time leader retaining the top post, even as the party rebrands.

Representative for Constituency three, Hon. Konris Maynard supported Dr. Douglas’ statement, while urging the media and the public at large “not to be caught up in the distraction tactics that the government side is using.”

“The call for a leadership change in the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party is coming from outside of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party. They are saying that something is wrong with the leadership.”

He questioned why the government, who are their main competitors, have a problem with the leadership of the SKNLP.
