Basseterre, St. Kitts- The St. Kitts-Nevis Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the St. Kitts Christian Council and the St. Kitts Evangelical Association have in the immediate past, and more recently, sought to reinforce the maintenance of law and order, fairness and justice. In the Four Seasons Accord of 1994, the aforementioned bodies intervened as civic institutions at a critical time in our Nation’s development and history.
Now today, we are called upon again to reflect upon the challenges which confront us as we countdown to a momentous time for our Nation, the imminent General Elections. We express our highest concern that the ongoing meeting of the National Assembly is creating the perception that the Rule of Law is being undermined. We call upon our fellow citizens of all persuasions to uphold the Rule of Law at all times.
We call for no action to be taken that undermines this fundamental principle of our Nation as this can only lead to social instability. We also call for all parties and citizens to fully respect the Constitution and the law.
All citizens must promote justice and fairness and protect the democratic rights of our fellow citizens. These rights include the right to participate fully in a free and fair electoral process, the right to support a political party of one’s choice, and the right to peacefully protest.
Our organisations remain committed to the promotion of the welfare of our Nation and call upon our fellow citizens to act in every way that will promote peace, justice, democracy and good governance.
