Roadtown, Tortola - Government was represented at the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (IPMA-HR) Conference in St. Thomas United States Virgin Islands (USVI).

Human Resources personnel from the Ministries of Natural Resources and Labour, Education and Culture, Health and Social Development, Finance, Premier’s Office, Deputy Governor’s Office, Departments of Human Resources, Agriculture, Information Technology, Public Works, Water and Sewerage, Customs, Conservation and Fisheries, Inland Revenue, Training Division, Attorney General’s Chambers, Supreme Court, and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force attended the conference, now in its third year from June 16-18 under the theme “Renewal in a Time of Crisis.”

The conference was geared towards attracting a diverse and representative body of HR professionals across the region.  Participants discussed HR’s response to the extraordinary challenges of the moment namely global economic crisis, administration change, shrinking budget – new mandates and the aging workforce.

Additionally, the HR professionals examined HR initiatives and responses at cascading levels and locations of government—federal, state, local, island and the private sector.  They also examined the never-ending challenge of succession management and challenges at the individual employee level.

The three-day conference was sponsored by the International Public Management Association for Human Resources, the Government of the USVI Department of Personnel, and the Government of the Virgin Islands Department of Human Resources.

Government remains committed to ensuring that public servants are equipped with the necessary training and tools needed to effectively provide the services and support offered by the Government of the Virgin Islands (UK).
