BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Feb. 07.2018 – THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that none of the federation’s students currently in Taiwan were injured in yesterday’s earthquake.

Permanent Secretary in that Ministry, Kay Bass gave that confirmation to SKNVibes News today.

“ the Ministry would have spoken to our Ambassador this morning in Taiwan and she has indicated that the students are fine.”

Though the Asian nation has been seen frequent earthquakes in recent times, the latest caused serious damage.

According to reports out of Taipei, a magnitude 6.4 quake struck the island-nation in the wee hours of yesterday.

The latest report indicates that quake occurred in the northeastern city of Hualien, where a number of the federation’s students are residents.

At least seven persons are confirmed dead as buildings were left tilted in some areas, while a large number of people are feared trapped.

Reports have confirmed that at least 250 people were injured in the quake.

Though they did not have the exact number of students in the quake zone at the time of the interview, the Permanent Secretary confirmed that all were accounted for up to news time.

She said that is based on the reports obtained from Ambassador, Jasmine Huggins.

According to CNN, at least 15 aftershocks were felt in the quake area, with the strongest measuring a magnitude a 4.8 on the Richter scale.
