Volleyball Association marching on despite lack of facility

By: SKNVibes.com, Staff Reporter
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Feb. 12.2018 – THE St. Kitts-Nevis Volleyball Association will continue to have dialogue with the relevant authorities, with a view of having a facility of its own to grow the sport.

President of the SKNVA, Glen Quinlan recently explained to SKNVibes that they had substantial discussions in recent times with regards to a covered facility, noting that the absence of such a facility is making it difficult for players to practice.

For many years, volleyball officials both at the Administrative and lower levels have been pushing to have a home for the sport, including an indoor facility.

Currently, the sport is sharing a spot at Warner Park with Netball which is proving to be difficult.

With a shared facility, players find it challenging when other disciplines have training sessions and competitions.

Additionally, it is difficult during the rainy season to have the sport played on the wet courts at Netball City.

Quinlan explained that though it remains a challenge they continue to march on with the sport.

“Whilst that remain a challenge, we continue to march on around that, through that, and taking all that into consideration, we will do what we have to do with what we have. We are not going to overly spend too much time with things we have no control over,” he stated. “We have control over getting the guys on the beach; we have control over getting the guys in the park and playing and we would do that in Netball City. When it doesn’t rain we will do that.”

The President said that they had discussions with the Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Sport and are also in dialogue with another entity to have more coaches in the schools to enhance the sport, despite the lack of a proper facility.

The Association is hopeful that coming out of the current discussion, they will find a location in the town that will allow them to lay sand to push that aspect of the game.
