More suspects arrested in TT Carnival disruption plot

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Feb.14.2018 – LAW enforcement officials in Trinidad and Tobago have made more arrests in the threat to disrupt Carnival Monday and Tuesday.

Reports out of Port of Spain indicated that 13 persons are currently in police custody in relation to that incident.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival is one of the biggest cultural events in the region and law enforcement officers last week revealed that they had learned of a terrorist activity aimed at disrupting the celebrations.

Acting Commissioner of Police in Trinidad and Tobago, Stephen Williams, while engaging reporters yesterday, explained that the force has been making more arrests, and also carrying out search operations on a number of properties around the island.

He said that the numbers arrested are increasing, stressing that none of those taken into police custody were released.

National Security Minister, Edmund Dillon, along with members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Force took a walk through Port of Spain yesterday, and he told reporters that people were out enjoying the activities and doing it in a peaceful manner.

He noted that the law enforcement agencies alone can’t do it alone, adding that they have seen “a good deal of collaboration by the citizens and foreigners and I believe together we can make it through this evening and enjoy a safe and secure Carnival celebration”.

A number of political and other senior government officials from St. Kitts and Nevis travel to the event on an annual basis.
