St. Kitts Hosts 8th Annual Admiral's Cup Pro-Am

By: St. Kitts Tourism Authority, Press Release

Event Showcases the Island to a Key Target Market

Basseterre, St. Kitts (February 15, 2018) - The St. Kitts Tourism Authority hosted its 8th Annual St. Kitts-Nevis Admiral's Cup Pro-Am Tournament, which took place from February 3-8, 2018. It is the only golf event of its kind, with tournament play taking place on two Caribbean islands.

"It was a pleasure to host the tournament again this year and welcome teams from across the globe," said the Hon. Mr. Lindsay F.P. Grant, Minister of Tourism, International Trade, Industry and Commerce. "Congratulations to the winning team and to all golfers who participated. The Pro-Am is our premier golf event to build awareness for the destination among these experiential lifestyle travelers."

Racquel Brown, CEO of St. Kitts Tourism Authority, added: "St. Kitts offers a developing golf product that is challenging to golfers of various skill levels. The Royal St. Kitts Golf Club is spectacularly positioned between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea with a stretch of oceanfront holes and views of the southeast peninsula. Congratulations to all this year's participants, who we hope to welcome back next year."

This prestigious five-day team tournament pairs a PGA club professional with three amateurs to form Pro-Am teams and is jointly staged at the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club and the Robert Trent Jones II course at the Four Seasons Resort Nevis golf course. This year marked the introduction of the new 'Am - Am' division, featuring pairs of amateurs competing in a separate three-day best ball stableford. This new addition allows for more players to compete in the tournament by not having to take part with a host professional.

Taking home the Admiral's Cup this year was the Mannings Heath Golf Club from the UK. The team, made up of Host Professional Tom Hayward and amateurs Jack Hayward, Ed Massam and Elliot Coy, earned their spot in the Admirals Cup Pro-Am by winning the TP Tour Grand Final that took place in November. The Mannings Heath Pro-Am team dominated the field from the first day of the 54-hole team event, winning by 18 shots over the second place East Bank Club from Chicago, Illinois. In the new Am-Am Division, the team of Ed Massam and Elliot Coy were crowned inaugural champions.

"We had a truly memorable trip," said Tom Hayward and rising touring professional on the TP Tour. "The golf courses were fantastic and the event was run brilliantly. We look forward to returning to St. Kitts & Nevis to defend our titles and will spread the word about this great event to bring more teams from the UK along with us."

In the eight consecutive years the Pro-Am has been running, more than 100 teams and 1,000 total attendees have experienced all St. Kitts & Nevis has to offer as a must-visit golf destination. Beyond the golf rounds, attendees enjoyed nightly dinner functions including a private Super Bowl Viewing Party at Carambola Beach Club, exhilarating speedboat transfers between the two islands, guided island tours and excursions such as ziplining and snorkeling, authentic Kittitian cuisine and various types of accommodations.

This year's tournament hotel partners included the St. Kitts Marriott & Royal Beach Casino, Four Seasons Resort Nevis and the Silver Reef Resort.

The Royal St. Kitts Golf Club designed by Canadian course architect Thomas McBroom and the Four Seasons Resort Nevis signature Robert Trent Jones II course are two of the Caribbean's most scenic and challenging championship courses. The Royal St. Kitts Golf Club is an 18-hole course managed by Marriott Golf that features holes on both the Caribbean and Atlantic. The Four Seasons Resort Nevis Golf Club is a par 71, 18-hole course that overlooks the Caribbean Sea and St. Kitts with a spectacular beach-side finishing 18th green.
