BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Feb. 15.2018 – THE Team Unity Government today (Feb.15) reopened the National ICT Center at the Industrial Site, as part of its 3rd anniversary activities.

Minister of Information and Communication, Hon. Vincent Byron and Prime Minister, Dr. Timothy Harris cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the Center before a large gathering.

Byron told SKNVibes that there are no limits to what the reopening of the Information and Communication Technology Center means for St. Kitts and Nevis.

He explained that the reopening is just the start of the plans the government have for ICT, whereby they are looking to develop a full ICT sector to provide business opportunities.

“We expect to develop an ICT sector here, where we are going to attract businesses – not just develop local businesses; small businesses can expand and become part of the global economy. We can attract branded businesses to come and set up shop in St. Kitts and Nevis.”

The Minister pointed out that the new development is a chance for young people in the Federation to get meaningful training and work and find new avenues to expand their horizons.

“Just by expanding our ICT footprint, it leads to a strong economy and leaves us better off; provides a better quality of life for everyone.”

PM Harris underscored the strides the Federation has made over the last several years in ICT, pointing out that the JN France Hospital see the implementation of Information Communication Technology this year.

He disclosed that all 17 health centers around St. Kitts will be computerized within the next year, and will be carried out using funding from a Chronic Kidney Disease project, provided for by the Taiwanese.

“With all the opportunities that are now available, it is important that we educate and train and prepare more people, and in particular young people with the requisite skills to maximize the use of ICTs and maintain the safety of our nation.”

Meanwhile, students from the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College gave the gathering an opportunity to witness first hand, the robot that competed at the STEM Olympics.

Additionally, they released a prototype of a mechanical hand that they are currently working on.
