Police: No report of wanted Indian in Federation

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Feb. 27.2018 – COMMISSIONER of Police Ian Queeley has said the Force has not received any indications that an Indian national wanted in his homeland is in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Reports published by the Deccan Chronicle out of India, suggest that “diamond czar Nirav Modi and family moved to his new hideout in St Kitts”.

According to reports published by the Mumbai Mirror, Modi “is said to be in St Kitts, where he and his family have reportedly bought a villa, which is helping to speed up the paperwork for his citizenship.”

He and family members are reportedly being investigated by several government agencies in India for a recent fraud case that allegedly occurred at the Punjab National Bank sometime last year.

According to reports, he scammed the bank Rs 11,400 Crore with the assistance of several employees from the institution.

CoP Queeley could not give a comment on the matter, but the report stated that the man fled to St. Kitts in January.

The government in a statement today, refutes claims that Modi has applied for Citizenship.

“It has come to the attention of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis that media reports out of India are promulgating the false claim that Nirav Modi, his wife, Ami, and his uncle, Mehul Choksi, have applied for economic citizenship in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

“The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis repudiates this allegation and states on the record that Mr. Modi is not a citizen of St. Kitts and Nevis, and neither are his wife and uncle.

“Furthermore, Citizenship by Investment (CBI) record checks confirm that no applications have been made by or on behalf of these individuals.

“Immigration records also indicate that none of these persons has entered any port in St. Kitts and Nevis.

An Interpol report dated February 15th, 2018 does not list St. Kitts and Nevis anywhere as a country likely to be visited by these individuals,” the statement said.
